The Verkhovna Rada wants to reform vocational education

34 MPs propose to adopt a new law ‘On Vocational Education’, which will change the legal framework for its functioning. Draft law No. 13107 provides for the replacement of the term ‘vocational education’ with ‘vocational education’ and the corresponding renaming of educational institutions.

In particular, instead of vocational schools, it is planned to introduce a single main type of institution — a ‘vocational college’ with several specific subtypes. Graduates of such institutions will receive the qualification of a ‘professional specialist’ and a diploma of the appropriate standard, instead of a ‘skilled worker’.

In addition, it is proposed to establish supervisory boards in vocational education institutions, where at least half of the members must be employer representatives. It is also envisaged that persons without a basic secondary education will be able to acquire professional qualifications if they meet professional standards.
