The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has updated the Regulations on the Student Olympiad and Tournament Movement, significantly changing the format of subject Olympiads. Starting from the 2025/2026 academic year, the number of stages will be reduced from four to three, and the school stage will be completely cancelled.

Under the new rules, the Olympiads will be held at the local, regional and national levels. The first stage will be open to all interested students who will be able to register independently, bypassing their school or teachers. The regional stage will be open to local winners, as well as students of scientific lyceums and participants from abroad. The national stage will bring together the strongest participants, including representatives of the Ukrainian Lyceum of Physics and Mathematics in the exact sciences.
The Ministry of Education and Science notes that the reform is aimed at increasing the accessibility and transparency of the Olympiad movement, eliminating bureaucratic obstacles and expanding opportunities for talented students regardless of their place of study.
