On 26 February, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted draft law No. 12375, which amends the Law on Complete General Secondary Education and simplifies the procedure for recognising the results of education obtained by Ukrainians abroad.
The law allows Ukrainian citizens to confirm the knowledge gained in educational institutions outside the country, both in formal and non-formal education. The new rules do not apply to educational institutions located in a country that Ukraine has recognised as an aggressor or occupier.

According to the authors of the draft law, a significant number of Ukrainians are currently receiving secondary education abroad, but the current mechanism for recognising such results did not take into account the realities of their studies. Previously, the system was adapted only for educational trajectories within Ukraine and did not meet the needs of Ukrainians studying abroad.
After the law is passed, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine will be empowered to determine the procedure for recognising education obtained abroad. This should make it easier for Ukrainian students to integrate into the national education system or continue their studies.
